I don’t know what to say,
what to think neither asking what is life about, Walid Ataya son
of Pierre Ataya and Dora Ataya (god reset her soul-She was
treating me as her son Walid), my closer friend we grow up
together between the old roads of shweir, go hunting every day,
playing (Nefaykhet), spending holidays…playing volleyball
together and this is what I want to talk about ,Walid was a very
good player and he was my partner we were playing two on two
against other teams from shweir like (Kou3 neb3a - Hay
Zghaybiye-Ayn sendyane …) and the Shweir volleyball dream team
began with me and Walid Ataya and Khaled Bou Samra we were the
three musketeer and I don’t remember that we lost a lot of games
at this time, anyway if I want to mention everything I think I
can write like a thousands of papers because we are talking
about years and years, Walid the calm man and the hand destroyer
this is his nick name because of the strong hand that he owned
in addition that he was a perfect table tennis player and much
more….
Anyway I want to ask if anyone can tell us the real story about
what happened and where was he! and I want to ask all the Shweir
elite to follow this case to the end to keep it alive with the
persons in charge of it and to keep us update with all the news,
I don’t want to remind anyone that this man is a SHWEIRY, my
prayers for his family and let us know if we can help in anyway.

I agree with you ya Joseph.
This web page has been exceptionally quiet about this
disappearance. I pray that there is no foul play, but in case
there is, we should be all incensed and very vocal. I echo the
appeal of Joseph and repeat,Please, someone keep us informed
about any developments. Our thoughts and prayers are with his
family and Alla Kareem he will return home safely.

Thanks Abou al Zooz for
bringing this subject back to the web site. Last week I watched
the news conference conducted by our mayor on LBC. We pray and
hope that this Young Shweiry return home safely.
We would appreciate very much if some body back home sends his
picture to be posted on the web site and keep us inform of the
situation.
We should all press the officials to keep searching for this
young Shweiry

Waleed’s family received
all your prayers and hopes to find or to know anything about
their son;
What follow is a message from his father and sisters to all of
you;
“In the 7 of February, Waleed took his wife from Shweir to her
parent’s house in camp of Sabra – Beirut, and he vanished there.
He was born in the 30th of March 1974, got married to a
Palestinian woman named Abir Abi Basha.
We are doing all our best to find Waleed.
Now the case of missing Waleed is in hand of the investigation
of the Lebanese government with the inspector Talal Yousef.
The investigation is going very slow.
Her sister Tamara, asks your prayers to find him alive, and if
he passed away to pray for his soul to be in heaven with Jesus.
We want to say thank you to all of you asking about Waleed”

The impression that I got
from Samar's message is very disturbing. There is an element in
it of resignation. I think that the entire city should get
behind this issue and be very vocal. Abductions such as this is
repulsive and should not be tolerated in a civilized society.
"The investigation is moving slow"! Maybe I am naive, but
someone should put some heat on the powers that are--We want our
son back! We want him back safe and sound.

Samar
This is so disturbing and I pray and hope that Waleed will
return home to his family.
It seems to me, as a society as well as as well
as a community, we are helpless in such dire
circumstances.

WALID?! WALID ATAYA?! Why?
What has he done to deserve this? What kind of investigations
are taking place?! It's almost 2 months now and he's still
missing... The last thing I could ever imagine is hear such a
striking news about Walid, the innocent brother, relative, and
friend...
I agree with everyone that we should keep pushing the case
forward to speed up the investigation and search! If a
politician's puppy is missing, the whole country gets flipped
around, THIS IS WALEED + He's a SHWEIRY.. WE NEED HIM BACK
NOW!!!! I would like to tell his family to be strong and not
surrender if the investigations are slow. With our prayers he
can be back but we also need immediate action from whoever has
proper connections to get him back!
Some of us are fasting for easter and are refraining from eating
certain types of food but shweir is fasting from seeing Waleed
Everyday. 3eid il bshara is on Saturday, let's pray we get a
nice bshara about his return..

This young man has been
missing since February 7th and the investigation is going slow?
I do not presume to know much about how things work in Lebanon,
but here in the U.S. his picture would be everywhere, and his
story will be reported on daily by the press.
This web page did not hear of this story for over a month after
it occured, and even then in a very oblique fashion. Thank you
Anwar for putting this young man's picture on the front of this
web page. I wish that there is a way that we can put the number
of day's since his disappearance and keep it there till this
situation is resolved. Also, I wish that every shweiry, no
matter where he is registers his disdain in this BB and call on
the authorities to take this more seriously and move faster.
Tonight ya Paula, we are having liturgy in Beaumont for 3eed el
Bshara and Walid's name will be remembered and we will be asking
the Lord to return this young man to his family safe and sound.

Apparently his case was
shown on LBC a couple of weeks ago. I had people calling me to
ask about him.
Here in NZ, like the USA there would be constant press coverage
until the issue was solved. Its a shame the Lebanese Army is
unable to just storm the camp of Sabra to find out what happened
to him. I am sure they could quickly either find him or the
people responsible for what has happened to him.
The fact that those camps are off limits to the sovereign Govt
of Lebanon is a disgrace. Any other decent country would have
them under close supervision (without allowing them weapons).

Gabi you are so right.
Having all these extralegal enclaves that operate outside the
authority of the government, be they Lebanese or foreign, is an
affront to the sovereignty of Lebanon and all its citizens. The
first and foremost task of any government is the protection of
its people--to maintain law and order. The return of this young
man safely should be top priority! Anything short of that is not
only unacceptable but is shameful.

there should be no areas
outside lebanese governments control. Refugees should bow to the
law of the country they are hosted in and do their best to help
that country. The ones in Lebanon seem to show nothing but
disrespect and ungratefulness to Lebanon.
I mentioned this case of Walid to a friend of mine last night
when I was at his restaurant for dinner. He just shook his head
and was very sad. He said to me that he had almost forgotten all
the kidnappings that used to go on in Lebanon during the war. He
moved here to get away from that in the 1980's. He was sad that
it is still happening.
I was just reading the news....... Here is a link to a news
story from the last few days. Does anyone know these Ministers
who went to Sabra and the other camps?
If so do you know if they made enquiries as to the whereabouts
of Walid?
If they did not then they are a disgrace to Lebanon.
Ya Libnan

Gabi, I read a similar
article in the Nahar. Apparently the parliamentary delegation
went to the camp to see first hand humanitarian aspects.
Everyone knows that conditions in these and other camps are and
have been disgraceful. Ya Gabi, I doubt if any of them asked
about Walid. I wonder if there is any courageous member of
parliament left to champion this unfortunate young man and his
poor family--maybe there is and we have not heard who he or she
is. I doubt it , but I stand corrected if there was.

Not having a progress
report from the government assigned investigator, Talal Yousef,
makes it difficult for us to ascertain what has been
investigated and eliminated and what else can be done? When was
the last time any body saw him or heard from him? Did he
have a car or a cell phone. These can provide many
critical clues.
If he dropped his wife at Sabra camp at noon and he made or
received a call 1,2 or 3 hours later, then the suspicions about
foul play within the camp can be greatly reduced.
Here in the U.S. and many other parts of the world, the last
person to see a missing person or a victim becomes by default
the prime suspect even if that person were a family member or a
friend. Many crimes were solved following the tracks of the cell
phone. For example, If he had a cell phone, can they get the
records of the all calls made or received after his
disappearance? If so, were these calls made by him or some one
who got access to his phone. If someone else made these calls,
they become prime suspects. by following the numbers that were
called, usually, the person making the calls can be identified.
If Walid made these calls and the phone company has tracking
capability, they can tell approximate location of where the
calls were made based on which wireless towers connected the
calls. Sometimes, one of these little technicalities that can be
the missing link to help solve a mystery.
Then again, if there were no such leads, they would have very
little to go on and it can go very slow.
Can the investigator provide the family with a progress report
of what has been done so far???
